Our story
Cretan cooking
the way it was meant
to be.
Nestled in the village of Voulgaro, just minutes from the Cretan coast, Neratzoula was born in 1990 from the hands and hearts of Stefanos and Georgia Marakaki — two people with a deep love for honest food, generous hospitality, and the flavors of the Cretan countryside. What began as a family dream became a gathering place. A spot where locals came not just to eat, but to feel at home — surrounded by flowers, color, and the kind of cooking that doesn't follow recipes so much as it follows memory. In 2013, their daughter Christini Marakaki took over alongside her son Michalis, carrying the tradition forward with the same passion and a fresh eye for creativity. Since 2021, Michalis has been at the helm — cooking three generations of family recipes with unwavering respect for what came before, while quietly reimagining what Cretan cuisine can be. Dishes like graviera in crispy phyllo, smoked panseta, and staka reveal a kitchen that knows exactly where it comes from — and isn't afraid to surprise you. We cook the way your grandmother would — with local ingredients, generous hands, and recipes passed down through the family. We're glad you're here.
